The settings catalog

Read the label first.

All 104 settings shipped with this build, across seven categories. These are desktop controls, not switches you apply from this website.

Risk labels describe the app's estimate, not a promise of safety. Explicit availability checks exist for some settings; your own list can differ. Read before changing anything.

CPU

16 settings · 11 safe · 4 moderate · 1 dangerous

  • High Performance Power PlanSafe
  • Ultimate Performance PlanDangerous

This forces the CPU to stay at maximum power at all times. On a desktop that mostly means extra heat and wasted electricity, but it can destabilize power delivery on lower-quality PSUs, raise temperatures enough to trigger thermal throttling (making the PC slower, not faster), and on laptops it drains the battery very quickly.

  • Disable Core ParkingSafe
  • Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling (HAGS)Moderate
  • Foreground App CPU Priority BoostModerate
  • MMCSS System ResponsivenessSafe
  • Gaming MMCSS ProfileSafe
  • Disable Energy Performance PreferenceModerate
  • Disable Background CPU ThrottlingModerate
  • 100% Maximum CPU Performance (plugged in)Safe
  • Instant Menu ResponseSafe
  • Faster Shutdown Service TimeoutSafe
  • Default Timer Policy (remove HPET override)Safe
  • Global Timer Resolution (0.5 ms)Safe
  • Disable Mouse AccelerationSafe
  • Disable USB Selective SuspendSafe

GPU

15 settings · 9 safe · 4 moderate · 2 dangerous

  • Disable Game Bar / Game DVRSafe
  • Enable Game ModeSafe
  • Disable Fullscreen OptimizationsSafe
  • Disable Maximized Windowed Mode (DXGI)Safe
  • Disable Game Bar OverlaysSafe
  • Best-Performance Visual EffectsSafe
  • NVIDIA Low Latency (registry)Moderate
  • Disable Desktop TransparencySafe
  • Windowed Game Frame CompatibilitySafe
  • Disable Multiplane Overlay (MPO)Dangerous

This turns off a Windows display-composition layer. On some driver combinations it fixes flicker, but on others it causes exactly those symptoms: desktop flickering, stuttering video playback, broken HDR brightness, or glitchy window rendering. If your display starts misbehaving, revert this first.

  • Force Flip Model PresentationSafe
  • Disable GPU Power Savings (plugged in)Moderate
  • Desktop Process CoalescingModerate
  • MSI Mode for GPUModerate
  • Disable Memory Integrity (VBS)Dangerous

Memory integrity is a real Windows security feature: it blocks many kernel-level malware techniques. Disabling it leaves your kernel less protected, and some anti-cheat systems (Vanguard for Valorant, several others) refuse to run without it. Only do this on a machine used for gaming where you accept the security tradeoff.

RAM

8 settings · 5 safe · 2 moderate · 1 dangerous

  • Disable Paging ExecutiveDangerous

This pins the Windows kernel into physical RAM so it can never be paged out. On a PC with plenty of RAM that is fine, but on a machine with 8 GB or less it shrinks the memory available to your apps and can cause more out-of-memory errors, freezes, or crashes under load. A restart is required for the change to take effect.

  • Disable SysMain (Superfetch)Safe
  • Enable Memory CompressionSafe
  • Automatically Manage Page FileSafe
  • Use Standard System Cache ModeModerate
  • Clear Page File at ShutdownSafe
  • Maximum File System Memory UsageModerate
  • Prefetch for Boot and AppsSafe

Storage

14 settings · 10 safe · 3 moderate · 1 dangerous

  • Enable Write Caching (all disks)Moderate
  • Disable NTFS Last-Access UpdatesSafe
  • Disable Windows Search IndexingSafe
  • Expose AHCI/NVMe Link Power PoliciesSafe
  • Keep SSD TRIM EnabledSafe
  • Enable Scheduled Drive OptimizationSafe
  • Reduce Delivery Optimization Disk ActivityModerate
  • Enable Automatic Storage SenseSafe
  • Disable 8.3 Filename CreationSafe
  • Remove Windows Reserved StorageSafe
  • Storage Sense: Empty Recycle Bin AutomaticallySafe
  • Optimize Drives While IdleSafe
  • Disable Hibernation FileModerate

Hibernation lets you close the lid and resume exactly where you were after days of sleep. If you rely on hibernate or Fast Startup, this removes both. Laptop users who hibernate overnight should leave this off.

  • Disable Write Cache Buffer FlushingDangerous

With flushing off, data sitting in the drive cache is lost if power is cut mid-write - an outage or pulling the plug can corrupt whatever was being written at that moment. Laptops on battery are partly protected; desktops on a surge-only strip are not. Enable only with a UPS.

Network

22 settings · 13 safe · 9 moderate · 0 dangerous

  • Disable Nagle’s AlgorithmSafe
  • Disable Network Throttling IndexSafe
  • Disable Large Send Offload (LSO)Moderate
  • Enable Receive Side Scaling (RSS)Safe
  • Enable Receive Segment Coalescing (RSC)Safe
  • TCP Receive Auto-Tuning (Normal)Safe
  • Enable TCP Fast OpenSafe
  • Compound TCP Congestion ControlModerate
  • Enable NIC Checksum OffloadSafe
  • NIC Interrupt Moderation Off + Bigger BuffersModerate
  • Keep TCP Stack in Software (no offload bugs)Safe
  • Enable Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN)Safe
  • Disable TCP TimestampsModerate
  • Disable TCP HyStart Slow-Start GuardModerate
  • Faster Initial Connection TimeoutModerate
  • Quicker Connection Failure DetectionModerate
  • TCP Pacing Profile: OffModerate
  • Stop Windows Powering Off Network AdaptersSafe
  • Disable QoS Packet SchedulerModerate

Policy-based QoS, DSCP traffic marking and third-party traffic shapers stop working, and the change (or the revert) only takes effect after a restart. Everyday browsing, downloads and gaming are unaffected. Fully reversible.

  • TCP Loss Recovery TuningSafe
  • Disable IPv6 Transition Tunnels (Teredo/ISATAP)Safe
  • NIC Power and Roaming Tuning (Wi-Fi)Safe

Telemetry

15 settings · 14 safe · 1 moderate · 0 dangerous

  • Disable Connected User Experiences and TelemetrySafe
  • Diagnostic Data: Security OnlySafe
  • Disable Customer Experience Improvement ProgramSafe
  • Disable Activity History CollectionSafe
  • Disable Advertising IDSafe
  • Disable Typing and Inking PersonalizationSafe
  • Disable Windows Error ReportingSafe
  • Disable Suggested and Promoted AppsSafe
  • Disable Compatibility Telemetry TasksSafe
  • Disable Location TrackingModerate

Turning this off breaks apps that rely on knowing where you are: Maps, Weather auto-detect, Find My Device and time-zone auto-set during travel. Enable it again if any of those matter to you.

  • Disable Microsoft RecallSafe
  • Disable Copilot in WindowsSafe
  • Disable Taskbar WidgetsSafe
  • Disable Web Search in Start MenuSafe
  • Disable Tailored Experiences and FeedbackSafe

Processes

14 settings · 11 safe · 3 moderate · 0 dangerous

  • Disable Fax ServiceSafe
  • Disable Remote RegistrySafe
  • Disable Downloaded Maps ManagerSafe
  • Disable Retail Demo ServiceSafe
  • Disable Phone ServiceSafe
  • Disable Routing and Remote AccessSafe
  • Disable WMP Network SharingSafe
  • Disable Distributed Link Tracking ClientModerate

If you regularly move files between drives and rely on .lnk shortcuts still resolving, re-enable this - those links will stop following the moved target.

  • Disable Xbox Live ServicesSafe
  • Disable Portable Device EnumeratorSafe
  • Disable Printer Notifications QueueSafe
  • Disable Program Compatibility AssistantSafe
  • Disable Connected Devices PlatformModerate

Phone Link's notification sync, Nearby Sharing and cross-device resume stop working if you ever want them. The service may be restarted by Windows on some builds; if it reappears, revert this tweak.

  • Disable Insider Program and Diagnostic PolicyModerate

Disabling DPS also disables automatic troubleshooting wizards (network adapter fix, audio troubleshooter) and some 'recommended troubleshooting' notifications. Windows Update, including driver delivery, keeps working normally.
